On or about 05/27/09:
a) Shop area - PVC pipe was being used to transport compressed air for the
operation of air-
powered rotary hand tools.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazards is
to get the pipe buried, encased in shatter-resistant material, or replaced
with metal (copper or
steel) pipe. (See Plastic Institute Recommendation B - Thermoplastic
Piping for the Transport
of Compressed Air or Other Compressed Gases, 2005).
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
