Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while operating an overhead hoist in the wet area. Gimborn Pet Specialties, LLC, Doraville, GA - An employee was exposed to struck by hazards while operating an overhead hoist located in the wet area. The Ton Coffing hoist's lower hook did not have a safety latch installed. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS: Reference: ANSI B30.16-2007 (16-2.1.2 Inspection) The employer shall perform frequent inspections on its hoists to ensure that defects are identified and repaired. A safety latch shall be installed on the lower hook to abate the hazard. In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required for this violation (using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
