Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to Struck by and Fall hazards relating to improperly braced trusses. a)On June 1, 2010 employees were erecting trusses on a residential addition project when the trusses rolled, knocking the contractor and one carpenter to the ground and injuring them. The trusses were not properly braced. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means to prevent this from occurring would be bracing trusses in accordance with the Truss Plate Institute HIB-91 Summary Sheet, Commentary and Recommendations for Handling, Installing & Bracing Metal Plate Connected Wood Trusses, and the Building Component Safety Information BCSI- B1 Summary Sheet, Guide for Handling, Installing, Restraining and Bracing of Trusses. Both publications were delivered to the site by the truss manufacturer. No Abatement Documentation or Certification Required
