Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: Struck by hazards associated with the collapse of Cold Formed Steel Trusses. a)On 02/13/11, the trusses of a church roof under construction suffered a progressive collapse, which then collapsed the entire roof system. During the week prior to the collapse, employees of Ellis Stone Construction Co who were erecting the trusses were exposed to struck-by hazards associated with improperly braced trusses. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable means to correct this hazard is follow the instructions and notes on the plans provided by the truss engineers and the truss fabricators, which reference the Cold Formed Steel Building Component Safety Instructions (CFSBCSI-2008) manual for installing temporary and permanent truss bracing. No Abatement Certification or Documentation Required.
