Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to improperly maintained single girder underhung hoists: (a) Facility: On or about March 23, 2009, the following deficiencies were identified on the following single girder underhung hoists: *Press Area, Acco Wright, 2 ton, serial #532-07-6942, sheave groves were not smooth. *Press Area, Acco Wright, 2 ton, serial #532-07-5981, bridge brake is damaged and needs to be replaced. *Furnace Area, Acco Wright, 2 ton, serial # 532-07-5980, need shock absorbing bumpers on the trolley and replace the broken bridge guide rollers. *Fab Area, C & M, 1 ton, serial #LW-2956MS, the existing upper limit switch does not work. *Fab Area, C & M, 1 ton, serial #LW-554ORM, the existing upper limit switch does not work. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be to correct these items with either in house maintenance employees or correct them by bringing in an outside contractor.
