Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to crushing hazards: (a) Shop: On or about September 3, 2009, periodic inspections are not performed on a column mounted jib crane equipped with a pendant controlled electric hoist. The crane was used several days earlier by an employee to hoist and mount the rotary table motor. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to follow ASME B30.11-2004, American Society of Mechanical Engineer standard for Monorails and Underhung Cranes, Section 11-2.1.3 for Periodic Inspections.
