Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: a) Employees were exposed to a fire/explosion hazard while performing various assigned duties involving sawmill operations. An approximately 12 ft of PVC piping was utilized to transport a CLASS II combustible dust from the sawmill to its point of final destination (outside sawmill). A sample taken on April 21, 2010 was confirmed as a CLASS II combustible dust. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard is to install stainless steel ductwork to replace the PVC piping. NFPA 664 standard for Fire Prevention in Wood Processing(2007). ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED
