Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazard or struck-by hazards: The special purpose elevator did not have the required semi and annual inspections and tests as required for special purpose elevators. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: The conducting of tests and inspection in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers standard A 17.1, sections 1001 and 1002, per Rule 1010.6. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.

Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck-by hazards: Employees were exposed to plastic shrapnel pieces from exploding PVC piping. A 1 inch, schedule 40, PVC piping system was installed to transport compressed air from the compressor to nozzles for tool attachment. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS: Encase the PVC in conduit or shatter resistant material of sufficient strength or subject only approved plastic piping to compressed air as recommended in the Plastic Pipe Institute Recommendation B, dated January 19, 1972, and revised December 30, 2005. 29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the above violation is completed.
