Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns from hot oil due to improper procedures in cleaning counter-top electric fryer. a) Counter area of store located at: 100 Ridge Rd., Lyndhurst, NJ 07071. Employee cleaning counter-top electric fryer was splashed with hot oil causing 2nd degree burns in her leg area. Violation disclosed on or about 12/21/09. Abatement Note: Among other feasible methods to correct this hazard is to train all employees in the safe and proper methods in cleaning the counter-top electric fryer as described in the Installation and Operating Instructions for this model under section 7 (Cleaning) on page 7.
