North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina:  The
employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment free from
recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to hazards associated with working in a hot
environment:
a) establishment - where employees suffered from heat-related symptoms
such as nausea,
sweating, diarrhea, vomiting, headaches, dizziness, and fainting. One
employee
fainted and was
transported to the hospital via ambulance on June 22, 2009 and treated for
heat-related
symptoms.
Abatement note:  One feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard
include installing and/or
maintaining an effective cooling system.  In the event the air cooling
system is inoperable the employer should
consider items such as developing and implementing work/rest cycles,
training employees on the signs and
symptoms of heat stress, factors that affect a person's risk, prevention,
and emergency procedures.
