General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a) At the time of the inspection, employees were using the man-lifts at Gregory Landing to access the upper levels of the elevator. The man-lifts were not periodically maintained and inspected by qualified personnel. The last qualified inspection was in 2001. Failure of the man-lift would create a fall from elevation. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to abate this hazard is to comply with ASME A17.3 Section 1.5(a)&(b). That standard references the following sections of ASME 17.1 Sections 8.6, 8.7, 8.10, & 8.11. Abatement verification is required for this violation. The abatement certification sheet is enclosed with the citations.ion
