Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: a)Yard area - Employee exposed to a fall hazard while removing the wire rope slings rigged to the corners of the pontoon while loading it onto flat bed trailer. The top of the pontoon was approximately 9 feet 7 inches above the ground and a safety belt was provided for fall protection. ABATEMENT NOTE: One possible and feasible abatement method would be to provide adequate step ladders allowing workers to reach the slings rigged to the pontoon without having to climb on top of the pontoon.
