Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employmnent and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to:
Employees working in the kitchen area were exposed to fire and explosion
hazards because the
natural gas line outlet was not properly capped.  The gas line had a
closed cock valve and a
quick disconnect fitting at the terminal end.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct the
hazards
is to comply with the American Gas Association National Fuel Gas Code, NFPA
54-1999/ANSI Z223.1-1999, by installing a threaded (gastight) plug or cap
at the
outlet until gas utilization equipment is connected thereto.
Abatement certification is required for this item in accordance with the
requirements of 29 CFR
1903.19(c).s
