General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: On or about 06/12/09, employees were exposed to the hazard of being run over as the Marine Travelift (mobile boat lift) was being operated in the vicinity of employees without personnel- deflecting guards for it's wheels. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method is to install personnel-deflecting guards around the leading edges of front and rear wheels. Deflecting guards should extend from the wheels and be designed in such a manner as to push persons out of the way of an oncoming vehicle and not be capable of running them over. PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
