General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)1 of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to burns: On or about 10/08/2009, at 4230 Square Lake Drive, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, an equipment operator removing a radiator cap from a pressurized cooling system was exposed to hot radiator fluid. Among other methods of abatement, one feasible and useful method to correct the hazard is for the employer to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer as provided on the warning label provided on the unit's operations and maintenance manual that states: "To open cap, stop engine, wait until radiator is cool. Then loosen cap slowly to relieve the pressure." PLEASE NOTE: CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT IS REQUIRED FOR THIS VIOLATION.
