Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to potential crushing hazards from falling loads and/or lift
parts:
(a)  For the employees who work around and under the AMMCO, 2-post above
ground
lift with a 9,000 lbs. capacity, that had damaged or missing contact pads
at Bair Ford-
Mercury Sales, Inc., located at Highway 18 East, Martin, South Dakota.
(b)  For the employees who work around and under the Gilbarco, 2-post
in-ground lift
that had a broken frame engaging attachment, leaking hydraulic cylinders,
and no load
rating at Bair Ford-Mercury Sales, Inc., located at Highway 18 East,
Martin, South
Dakota.
(c)  For the employees who work around and under the Globe, 2-post above
ground lift,
Model AFF-7071-1, Serial #7071-3355485, with a 7,000 lbs. capacity, that
had a
damaged anchor bolt at Bair Ford-Mercury Sales, Inc., located at Highway
18 East,
Martin, South Dakota.
(d)  For the employees who work around and under the Rotary, 4-post above
ground lift,
Model QL4P-12, Serial #0405129, with a 10,500 lbs. capacity, that had
missing front
wheel stops at Bair Ford-Mercury Sales, Inc., located at Highway 18 East,
Martin, South
Dakota.
(e)  For the employees who work around and under the Hanmecson
parallelogram style
portable lift that had leaking hydraulic cylinders and no load rating
listed on the lift at
Bair Ford-Mercury Sales, Inc., located at Highway 18 East, Martin, South
Dakota.

Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method of abatement would
be to
follow the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM and/or ANSI B153.1 which
includes,
among other requirements, the following:
1.Institute a preventive maintenance program according to the
manufacturer's
specifications.
2.Provide training to employees on proper use and care of the lifts.
3.Ensure all lifts are rated and marked with their load capacity.
4.Schedule and complete all periodic and annual inspections.
