B & G Foods Inc., was previously cited for a violation of this
Occupational Safety and Health
Standard 5(a)(1) which was contained in OSHA Inspection Number 310766647,
Citation Number
01, Item Number 01, Issued on 08/26/08, with respect to a workplace
located at 430 Industrial
Circle, Stoughton, WI 53589.
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
caused or were likely to cause death or serious physical harm.  Employees
were exposed to the
hazards associated with dust explosion, deflagration or other fire
hazards.
B & G Foods Inc Seasoning Department Hoffman Vacuum Cleaning System dust
collector was
located inside the building:
a) did not have explosion protection system
b) had PVC vacuum pipes
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS to comply with the National Fire
Protection
Association (NFPA) Chapter 61 "Prevention of Fires and Dust Explosion in
Agriculture and
Food Processing Facilities," 2008 edition, 6.3.1 "Equipment requiring
explosion prevention shall
be protected by containment, suppression, inerting or explosion venting."
10.4.4 Dust collection
system construction "all components of the dust collection system shall be
constructed of non-
combustible material." NFPA 69 "Standard on Explosion Prevention System"
2008 edition;
NFPA 68 "Standard on Explosion Protection by Deflagration Venting" 2007
edition, including
but not limited to:
a) Equip Hoffman Vacuum Cleaning System dust collector with explosion
protection
system
b) Replace PVC vacuum pips with non-combustible vacuum pipes
