Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees exposed to struck-by hazards while servicing vehicles on automotive lifts: a. At the workplace, employees were using a hydraulic Rotary Lift, model SP09, serial number CDA94B0113 that had a lock arm assembly in need of repair, lock arm cam gears were in poor condition and needed replaced and loose wires on the control panel, to service automobiles. In the event of the hydraulic lift failure, employees were exposed to being struck-by the vehicle being serviced and the automotive lift. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this include, but are not limited to the following, is to adhere to the guidelines in the American National Standards Institute/Automotive Lift Institute ALOIM:2008, Standard for Automotive Lifts-Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection and Maintenance. Instruct all employees in the safe operation of hydraulic lifts; develop and implement procedures for daily and periodic inspections of the hydraulic lifts; and ensure that maintenance is performed on the hydraulic lifts.
