Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards
that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that
employees were exposed to the hazard of stone slabs falling on them in the
process of
racking the slabs.   During placement of the stone slabs into storage in
the racking structure,
employees would put themselves in the  fall shadow zone of the slabs when
the clamp on
the slabs was released.
A feasible control to remedy this hazard is to have the metal posts
already secured in the
rails of the rack before the stone slabs are released from the clamp. The
metal posts would
prevent the slabs from falling back in the direction of the employee.
Specific abatement documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete
must be provided
to this office.d
