Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The Employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to slipping and fall hazards while walking on ice covered surfaces surrounding the work building. Walking surfaces between the main building and both the employee and work vehicle parking lots. On or about 1/28/11, the employer did not adequately sand or treat the walking surfaces between the main building and the employee and work vehicle parking lots to keep them free of ice and snow. A feasible and useful method to correct the hazard would be to clear and/or heavily sand the parking lots.
