Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm in that employees were exposed to struck by and caught under hazards associated with working beneath unstable and unsafe automobile lifts that were not inspected/maintained according to ANSI/ALI ALOIM - 2008. Standard for Automotive Lifts- Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to (a) Meet the requirements of ANSI/ALI ALOIM - 2008 Standard for Automotive Lifts- Safety Requirements for Operation, Inspection, and Maintenance and (b) Have an architect/engineer/competent person determine the floor loading capacity to ensure the floor will support the lifts and vehicles. SECOND FLOOR, SERVICE AREA WITH LIFTS ON THE WOODEN FLOOR: ON 3/2/11, THREE ROTARY AUTOMOTIVE LIFTS WERE IN UNSTABLE AND UNSAFE CONDITION AND WERE NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED BY QUALIFIED AUTOMOTIVE LIFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS.
