North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical hazards while occupying a temporary labor camp: a) Temporary labor camp comprised of three sleeping buildings, two bathroom facilities, and a kitchen area located at 746 Maple Swamp Road, Tarboro, NC-- 34 migrant farm workers were occupying a temporary labor camp where the following electrical hazards existed: Ungrounded window air conditioning unit in the front sleeping building. Unit was missing the ground pin. Electrical outlets in the cinder block bathroom facility and in the screened in eating area were not sufficiently covered. In both cases water sources were within six feet of the electrical deficiency. Two non functioning GFCI receptacles in the cinder block bathroom facility. The breaker box located on the front of the last sleeping building was missing the protective cover and several of the knock outs had been removed, leaving the box exposed. Two outlets in the kitchen area were missing knock outs, leaving live wires exposed. Abatement Notice: One feasible and acceptable means of abatement is to have a licensed electrician wire these buildings in accordance with the National Electric Code and local building code requirements.
