Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by/caught between hazards when engaged in residential construction roofing work: a.103 Kelly Dr., Bridgeport, WV: Roof trusses were installed during the construction of a new residential home. Employer removed truss bracing and installed spacers along the top chord of the trusses in lieu of diagonal bracing as observed on or about 05/27/2010. AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASABLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT METHOD TO CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS, while installing sheathing,"Remove only as much 2x4 bracing as is necessary to nail down the next sheet", as outlined on Page 45 of the BSCI 1-03 GUIDE TO GOOD PRACTICE FOR HANDLING, INSTALLING, & BRACING OF METAL PLATE CONNECTED WOOD TRUSSES, ISSUED BY THE WOOD TRUSS COUNCIL OF AMERICA AND THE TRUSS PLATE INSTITUTE (OCTOBER 1, 2003) ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION REQUIRED FOR THIS ITEM.
