Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that: a) Employees were exposed to flash fire and explosion hazard(s) in that a gas pressure regulator was not installed on the Rankin Delux Radiant Char-Broiler and the pilot lights were inoperable resulting in the Char-Broiler being lit by turning on all burners to the maximum open position, opening the valve on the main gas line, allowing gas vapors to accumulate and igniting the vapors with either a lighted piece of paper or some form of a lighter. A feasible and acceptable method of abating these conditions would be to have an appropriate gas pressure regulator installed, have all pilot lights and other affected components of the grill cleaned and/or repaired and ensure the broiler is regularly serviced in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications.
