Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that:
(a)An employee was accessing a flat roof deck area by climbing over the
top rail of
a Skyjack 4632 scissors lift. This exposed the employee to a fall hazard of
approximately 27 feet.
A feasible means of abatement would be to comply with American National
Standards (ANSI) A92.6 Self-Propelled Elevating Work Platforms which
requires
workers to maintain firm footing on the platform floor while working there
on
and states that climbing by occupants on the midrail or toprail of the
aerial
platform is prohibited.
Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required.
Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be
submitted within ten (10)
calendar days after the abatement date.ment
