Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
the Mold Department
in that:
(b)Pneumatic tools incompatible with compressed oxygen gas were connected
to the
shop-modified compressed oxygen gas piping system exposing employee to the
hazard of fire and explosion.
Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of abatement would be
to:
1.Identify the contents of pipes and valves by color coding or affixing
tags to pipes
and valves as provided in ANSI Standard A13.1, Scheme for the
Identification
of Piping Systems and the Compressed Gas Association Pamphlet G-4.4,
Industrial Practices for Gaseous Oxygen Transmission and Distribution
Piping
Systems.
2.Ensure interconnecting equipment compatibility as provided in NFPA-50,
Standard for Bulk Oxygen Systems at Consumers Sites.  Thereby, connections
to
compressed air piping and compressed oxygen gas piping must not be
interchangeable.
Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required.
Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be
submitted within ten (10)
calendar days after the abatement date.ment
