Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not furnish
employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees
transporting and working around radiator cores were exposed to struck-by
hazards.
(a)Employees were exposed to struck-by hazards while transporting unsecured
radiator cores on a manually propelled cart from tipping over and working
around
unsecured radiator cores that were sitting on the floor from tipping over.
The
radiator cores were approximately 470 pounds and measured 5'-1'' by 5'-2''
and
a flange width of 10''.
A feasible means of abatement includes, but is not limited to, is for the
employer
to develop and implement a procedure to bring one radiator core over to the
assembly area on a low cart, inspect it, and immediately install it before
another
radiator core is brought over.
Certification, and documentation/evidence of abatement is required.
Certification of abatement is required by 29 CFR Part 1903 and is to be
submitted within ten (10)
calendar days after the abatement date.ment
