Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to: (a) Chemical storage cage, on or about 7/23/2009, employees were exposed to the hazard of being seriously injured by a potentially violent chemical reaction from storage of incompatible chemicals next to each other. Drums of High Acid Cleaner FP and Inspectors Choice were stored together with no separation from each other. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct this hazard is to segregate incompatible chemicals into separately bermed areas, in accordance with the material safety data sheet and other prudent practice chemical storage guidelines. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement Certification Letter").tion
