Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards which were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to fall hazards while riding a mobile conveyor: a) On or about June 10, 2010, employees were exposed to fall hazards in excess of 17 ft while riding a mobile conveyor to gain access to a roof while stocking it with shingles. Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method of abatement is to use a portable ladder to access the roof and follow ASME B20.1-1996 Safety Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment, which prohibits riding conveyors. Abatement Note: Abatement certification is required for this item (see enclosed "Sample Abatement-Certification Letter").
