Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard. a) Yard behind processing building An employee walking on a loaded railroad car to anchor netting used the fork mounted work platform of a JLG G10-55A forklift as anchorage for personal fall protection. Violation observed on or about 11/17/09. One feasible and acceptable abatement method, among others, to correct this hazard is to provide an anchorage point in the processing building and cover the cars before they emerge. A second is to provide a guide wire anchorage run from posts along the siding.
