Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The
employer did not
furnish to each of his employees a place of employment which were free
from recognized
hazards that were causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical
harm to employees
in that employees were exposed to struck and crush-by hazards:
a)  Hume Supply, Inc. on or about May 23, 2011, at the address of 16650
Rinehart Rd.
Waynesville, OH: The employer did not assure sufficient and correctly
installed temporary
bracing was applied to the 54' scissor trusses erected on-site, exposing
employees to being
struck and crushed by metal plate connect wood trusses.
ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, feasible and acceptable means of
abatement
are to follow temporary bracing instruction from the manufacturer, or the
temporary bracing
instruction outlined in the 2008 Building Component Safety Information
(BCSI): Guide to
Good Practice for Handling, Installing, Restraining & Bracing of Metal
Plate
Connected
Wood Trusses.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
