North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of North Carolina: The employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment and a place of employment free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to electrical hazards: a) Temporary migrant labor camp, 3505 Jolly Road, Ayden, NC - twelve migrant farm workers were occupying a temporary migrant labor camp where the following electrical hazards existed: 1) Electrical outlets, located less than six feet from a water source in the kitchen, were not ground fault protected. 2) Light fixtures and wall outlets that were not properly secured and wall outlets missing covers allowed for live wires rated at 110 volts to be exposed in bedrooms and in kitchen 3) Temporary electrical wiring was being used in lieu of permanent wiring to supply power to an exterior light, cord was run through pinch points at a window. 4) Electric stove was not grounded. b) Temporary migrant labor camp, 3409 Jolly Road, Ayden, NC - six migrant farm workers were occupying a temporary migrant labor camp where the following electrical hazards existed: 1) Electric stove was not grounded. 2) A temporary electrical cord, plugged into a non-gfci outlet and running along the counter behind the kitchen sink, was used to supply electricity to the refrigerator. 3) A temporary electrical cord, held together by black electrical tape, was being used to supply electricity to an overhead light in the living area. ABATEMENT NOTICE: Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abating these violations is to eliminate all temporary wiring being used on a permanent basis and to have all corrections made in accordance with the NEC and local building code requirements.
