North Carolina General Statute 95-129(1) of the Occupational Safety and
Health Act of North Carolina:  The
employer did not furnish each of his employees conditions of employment
and a place of employment free from
recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious
physical harm to employees in that
employees were exposed to electrical hazards:
a) Hog farming operation, 1852 Haws Run Rd. Maple Hill, NC - Six employees
were exposed to energized
wiring in hog houses B1, B2, G1 and G2:
1) Switches used to control automated hog feeders located on a panel 5 ft
from the floor were not
installed in accordance with manufactures installation requirements or
electrical code requirements, in
that energized wiring was exposed. Switches rated for household use were
being used in an industrial
setting.
2) Ceiling mounted outlets 8 ft. from the floor, in all six hog barns were
not installed according to
manufactures instruction or the requirements for the National Electrical
Code.
In addition outlets rated
for household use were being used in an industrial setting.
Among others, one feasible and acceptable method of abating these
violations is to have all corrections made in
accordance with the NEC and local building code requirements.
