Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazard of being crushed or covered with hot oil as a of a broken or ruptured hydraulic line. Location: - South River, Salem, MA 01970: On or about 10/08/2009, The employee was exposed to being crushed by and or being burned by hot hydraulic oil from a potential break in the line, while riding in and working from a caterpillar 330 excavator. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable methods to correct the hazard is to provide employees with a scaffold or other acceptable means to work from.
