Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to fall hazards of a least four feet. a.On or about December 15, 2010, and at times prior to that, employee(s) were exposed to a fall at least four feet to the ground level below while transitioning from and to a self supporting ladder (stepladder) to the working level of the structural members. The stepladder was used to access a working level above the floor, which required the employee to step on the top step and not have anything to hold on to while climbing to the upper floor storage space. Among other methods, feasible and acceptable abatement methods to correct this hazard are to: Comply with ANSI A14.5-2000 American National Standard for Ladders Portable Reinforced Plastic Safety Requirements: 9.3.1 Ladder use shall be restricted to thepurpose for which the ladder is designed; 9.3.2 The user shall not step or stand higher than the step or rung indicated on the label marking the highest standing level of a ladder; and 9.3.6 Portable ladders are not designed for excessive side loading, and such abuse of the ladder shall be avoided. Also, ensure employees are using an appropriate ladder size per ANSI A14.5-2000 SECTION 9.2, " Selection". ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION ARE REQUIRED.TION
