Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to a fall hazard: (a) An employee was exposed to a fall hazard due to working on an unattended elevated forklift work platform that exceeded the work platform dimension of two times the load center distance from the back of the forks of the forklift at 1712 Kinderhook Avenue in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard would be to follow the American National Standards Institute B56.6-2005 Safety Standard for Rough Terrain Forklift Trucks sections 8.24.1(b) for platform dimensions, 5.15.1(s) and 6.2.11 for attending to forklifts.
