General-duty citation text
Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to struck by hazards from an underhung hoist: a)Underhung Hoist in Maintenance Shop: On or about 04/08/10 and at time prior to the employer failed to ensure the pendent control box was clearly marked to indicate the direction of the controls. b)Underhung Hoist in Maintenance Shop: On or about 04/08/10 and at times prior to the employer failed to ensure that periodic inspections were performed on equipment. Among others one feasible and acceptable method to correct the hazards is to follow the standards in ASME B30.16.2007, sections 16-1.1.2(a), that each control shall be marked to indicate the direction of motion, and 16-2.1.3(a), periodic inspections shall be performed.
