a:
At the Helapan Inc., food storage warehouse it was observed that several
vertical
columns of the storage racks were bent due to the impacts with mechanical
forklifts. It
was documented that this condition persisted for years and that the
employer was
considering to repair them but had not taken action. Some colums were badly
deteriorated or corroded, others were not bolted to the floor. Some held
pallets with 5
gallons liquids that were not secured to ensure that they stay together
while moving the
pallet. The racks were used for the storage of boxes with food and other
food containers
that could range in weight from 20 to 200 pounds each aproximately,
packages were
stored at a heights that varied from 6 inches to 15 feet, measured from
the floor level.
The employees were using the forklift to move boxes of food in palets from
one end of
the warehouse to another while other employees were walking around the
warehouse.
Hazard: Be impacted by materials that falls from a collapsing rack or
material that falls
from an uneven or bent rack due to impacts with forklifts.
Among others methods, one acceptable and possible to correct this hazard
is to carry out
the preventive maintenance according to ANSI MH 6.2-1984 (R1996), sec. 3,
11 and
to protect them of subsequent impacts according to the section 3, 5.
cambiarlas o
repararlas pero no habia tomado accion. Algunas columnas estaban
corroidas, otras no
estaba a
