employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized
hazards that were
causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in
that employees were
exposed to struck-by hazards:
Employees were exposed to being struck-by steel oil well pipe as it was
moved from the rack
area to the drill rig floor.  Pipe was hoisted by wire rope rigging
without the required amount
of wire rope clips to secure the load.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE METHOD TO
CORRECT THIS HAZARD IS:
Install at least three wire rope clips on any wire rope connection(s) with
a wire rope diameter
1/2 to 3/4-inch; and use a thimble at all wire rope loop(s) in accordance
with the wire rope clip
manufacturer and the Wire Rope Technical Board - Wire Rope Users Manual,
Fourth Edition.
29 CFR 1903.19(c)(1) requires certification that the abatement of the
above violation is
completed.
