Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that, employees were exposed to possible crush hazards from an automotive lift, due to the lack of training as required by the owners manual. On or about February 16, 2010, the employer did not ensure that employees were trained in the proper operations of the automotive lifts, exposing employees to a possible crush hazard. Abatement documentation is required of this item in accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d) Among other methods, some feasible means would be to follow the American National Standard Institute/ Automotive Lift Institute sections: 4.3, 4.4.1 and 4.4.2.
