Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The

a place of employment which was free from recognized hazards that were
likely to cause death
or serious physical harm to employees in that:
Employees were exposed to possible fall, crush and amputation hazards
while working from a
platform/cage on the elevated forks of a powered industrial truck.
Feasible means of abatement would be to comply with the American Society
of Mechanical
Engineers, ASME B56.1-2000 Safety Standard for low and High Lift Trucks,
which would
include, but not limited to:
1.Ensure lifting device is adequately secured to the mast of the truck
2.Ensure the cage was designed by the manufacturer or a competent person
with an
expertise in this area of engineer
3.Ensure employees working from the lifting device are provided and
required to
wear personnel fall arrest.
4.Ensure employees working from the lifting device are trained in use of
the
equipment and proper use and inspections of the personnel protective
equipment.
Abatement documentation is required for this item in accordance with
requirements of 29 CFR
1903.19(d).
