Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to being struck or grabbed by hoist cable: a)Winch cable on the Casagrande B180HD drill rig: Employee was exposed to being struck by or grabbed by winch cable (rope) because the employee approached the cable as it was taut. The taut rope had stored energy and grabbed his hand and spun it around the rope when slack was the rope. NOTE: IN ADDITION TO CERTIFICATION OF ABATEMENT, THE EMPLOYER IS REQUIRED TO SUBMIT DOCUMENTATION OF ABATEMENT FOR THIS ITEM. FAILURE TO COMPLY MAY RESULT IN AN ADDITIONAL PENALTY OF $1,000 AS PER 29 CFR 1903.19.
