Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to an electrocution hazard: a) The strike alert control system which is utilized to detect electrical strikes installed on the Vermeer D36X50 Navigator drill rig was inoperable, observed on or about 01/08/10. Among other methods, acceptable and feasible means of abatement are to comply with the manufacturers operator's manual and ensure the strike alert control system is fully operational prior to utilizing the machinery for horizontal drilling and boring.
