Employees were exposed to struck by hazards, while using the electrical
overhead 3 ton hoist
located in the Chop Line to lift metal containers filled with metal
debris. The hook did not a
have safety latch installed, which exposed employees to a struck by hazard
due to the load
disengaging from the hook. Monthly inspection of the hoist and chain was
not conducted, on or
about 5/11/10.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS:
To follow the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) B30-16-2007,
Overhead Hoists
(Underhung), Section 16-1.2.9 and Section 16-2.1.3.
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(c), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET).
