Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not
furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from
recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to
employees in that employees
were exposed to: a crushing hazard, while operating a conveyor, which
delivered cardboard to
the Selco Baler.
On or about 11/30/2010 in Work Shop #3 at 718 N Young Ave, Warner Robins,
GA:
Employees were exposed to crushing hazards, while operating a conveyor
system,
which
delivered cardboard to the Selco Baler. The employer failed to ensure that
the emergency stop
on the conveyor system was in a serviceable and operational condition.
AMONG OTHER METHODS, ONE FEASIBLE AND ACCEPTABLE ABATEMENT
METHOD TO CORRECT THESE HAZARDS IS:
The employer shall comply with the provisions of ASME B20.1-2009, Section
5.9.1.4., Safety
Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment. This standard states that
"Guards and safety
devices shall be maintained in a serviceable and operational condition."
In accordance with 29 CFR 1903.19(d), abatement certification is required
for this violation
(using the CERTIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION WORKSHEET), and in
addition, documentation demonstrating that abatement is complete must be
included with
your certification.  This documentation may include, but is not limited
to, evidence of the
purchase or repair of the equipment, photographic or video evidence of
abatement, or other
written records.
