Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and
a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause

formaldehyde a
sensitizing agent that can cause an immune system response and is a cancer
hazard.
Subsequent exposures can cause severe allergic reactions of the skin and
eyes and respiratory
tract. The employer did not perform a hazard assessment or provide proper
effective personal
protective equipment.
Feasible and reasonable means of abatement is to: 1) complete a hazard
assessment of the
work place to determine what hazards are present. 2) Provide proper PPE to
employees and
train them for proper use.

Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and
a place of
employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or
likely to cause
or serious injury to employees eyes in that they were exposed to
formaldehyde a
sensitizing chemical.  Liquid formaldehyde can also cause severe damage to
the eyes. Thus,
the standard requires employers to provide appropriate eye wash facilities
within the
immediate work area for emergency use by any employee whose eyes are
splashed with
solutions containing 0.1 percent or more of formaldehyde. The employer did
not perform a
hazard assessment or provide proper protective equipment and an eyewash
station
capable of
flushing the eyes for 15 minutes of continuous flow.
Feasible and reasonable means of abatement is to: 1) complete a hazard
assessment of the
work place to determine what hazards are present. 2) Provide proper PPE to
employees and
train them for proper use. Provide a eyewash station with minimum 15
minute flush in close
proximity to potential chemical eye exposure.
