Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were required to operate a truck / tanker trailer combination with inadequate braking capacity. (a)Blue Ridge Landfill - Employees were required to operate a Mack truck connected to a 6250 gallon capacity tanker trailer that was not provided with a connection for the trailer's air brakes, on or about March 20 2010. ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable method to correct this hazard is to equip the tractor / trailer combination with brakes in accordance with the requirements set forth in SAE J702 (Brake and electrical connection location - truck - tractor and truck - trailer), SAE J318 (Automotive air brake line couplers), SAE J1609 (Air Reservoir Capacity Guide - trucks and busses), SAE J2580 (Identification and installation of air brake system components) VERIFICATION REQUIREDTION
