Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being exposed to embalming solution spray: a) At the site, in the embalming room, there were two embalming machines. The machine on the left had a broken/ missing pressure gage sight glass. The pressure of the machine on the right works sporadically. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard of being expose the embalming solution is to ensure that the equipment/ embalming machine works correctly. The pressure gage is an important safety feature of the embalming machine. The needle of the gage, as designed, is calibrated and protected by a transparent cover. With this missing gage cover, the needle is exposed, and the calibration/ function of the gage is suspect. The embalming machine on the left, gage cover should be replaced to protect the needle and the calibration of the gage. The embalming machine on the right should be repaired to ensure the pressure is accurate and reliable.

Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed to the hazards of being struck by embalming table due to the table rolling or collapsing due to faulty hydraulics: a) At the site, in the embalming room, the embalming table had wheel locks that was not functioning. Also the hydraulics on the table were not functioning. Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to correct the hazard of being struck by the embalming table is to have the table inspected and all defects repaired to meet or exceed the original design.l
