Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970: The employer did not furnish employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that were causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees, in that: Emission Bay Area - On or about 6-22-10 - employer failed to adequately inspect and maintain the automotive lifts in the emission bays. Both lifts had hydraulic fluid leakage and safety latches did not function. The Mohawk lift and truck lift had no load capacity posted. The truck lift had been welded and not certified. ABATEMENT CERTIFICATION AND DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED ABATEMENT NOTE: Among other methods, a feasible and acceptable method to abate these hazards is for the employer to establish, implement and maintain inspection and preventive maintenance schedule per the information provided by the manufacturer, Mohawk Lifts, and the guidance provided by ANSI/ALOIM-2000 Automotive Lift Institute Standards.
