Section 5(a)(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970:  The
employer did not furnish employment
and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards that
were causing or likely to cause
death or serious physical harm to employees in that employees were exposed
falling and crushing hazards:
Company:  The White Hyster forktruck was used to elevate personnel in a
shop fabricated man basket.  The
man basket was not provided with mast protection to prevent contact with
moving parts in the mast and the
basket was too wide for the forktruck.
Among other methods, one feasible and acceptable abatement method to
correct this hazard is to design and
use work platforms in accordance with generally recognized consensus
standards such a American National
Standards Institute (ANSI) B56.1 Safety Standard for Low Lift and High
Lift Trucks.
